The Sea of Galilee

The Sea of Galilee is actually a freshwater lake that is fed by the Jordan River and drains into the dead sea.  Jesus spent a significant amount of His ministry around the Galilean Sea. Capernaum, Tiberias, and Gergesa are all on the sea and Bethsaida is nearby.

It was the Sea of Galilee that Jesus walked on.  It is where he met and invited some fishermen to catch men, rather than fish.  On another occasion, Jesus calmed a storm that the disciples believed would take their lives.

Above is a boat that is believed to be 2000 years old.  It was found at The Sea of Galilee.  It is unknown whose boat this was, but it is certain that Jesus sailed in a boat similar to this.

One of the most moving parts of the whole pilgrimage occurred today.  We boarded the boat on the right and spent an hour and a half on the Sea of Galilee.  During this time we celebrated Mass.  During the Mass, Bishop Michael and Father Noel performed a healing anointing on each one of us - a deeply spiritual time for us all.

After you have been on The Sea of Galilee, what else is there to do but enjoy "Peter's fish" for lunch? Two types of fish sought by fishermen in Jesus' time were sardines and musht better know as St Peter's fish."  We shared a delicious lunch together at Tanureen Galilee Restaurant.

So I leave my boats behind.... What boats will you leave behind to follow Jesus?
